This is the highest award the WPSA can bestow. It consists of a pair of sailor’s pants – tattered and torn, beaten and worn; they have been retired from further duty and stored in a sea chest. This began at the end of the first year of the club’s inception in the fall.
The Sacred Pants are awarded by secret vote of the Executive Committee, based on their service, spirit, seamanship & sailing ability, loyalty and sportsmanship. (From 1935-1937 they were awarded to the fleet champion.) They are awarded at the Annual Mess dinner in the fall and returned by the custodian the following September to go to the next recipient.
