WPSA saddened by Janine Redlien’s Passing

Janine Redlein passed on monday Nov 28 after a battle with breast cancer. Although she had not been active in Wet Pants in recent years, she will be remembered by members active in the 70′s and 80′s. In 1977 She won the crew of the year award after she responded to the command of “get that main in harder” at the committee boat end of line with a loud “F U!”

N O T I C E O F R A C E

1. RULES

1.1 The Wet Pants Sailing Association Annual Regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing 2009-2012.

1.2 The rules of the respective class will apply.

1.3 Certain rules may be changed and these changes will appear in full in the Sailing Instructions.

2 Classes

2.1 The Wet Pants Sailing Association invites the following classes: Sunfish, JY 15, 420,Flying Scots, Narrasketucks.

2.2 Dinghy Classes other than those listed in section 2.1 that are represented by three or more boats will be given their own starts and awards.

2.3 Dinghy classes represented by less than three boats will be grouped together into a single handicap fleet.

3 ELIGIBILITY & ENTRY

3.1 Skipers and crews do not have to be members of a GSBYRA affiliated organization.

4. FEES – There will be no entry fee.

5. SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

July 16, 2011: 8:00am to 9:00am, Registration. Bagels and Coffee will be provided.

9:30am, Competitors meeting

10.30am, First Warning

There will be no break for lunch. Bottled water will be available on the course. After the racing there will be a barbeque and awards.

6. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS – The sailing instructions will be available at registration.

7. SCORING – A maximum of four (4) races are scheduled, of which two (2) shall be completed to constitute a series. If four (4)] or more races are sailed, a boat’s worst score shall be discarded.

12. SAFETY – A US Coast Guard approved personal flotation device shall be worn, properly fastened, at all times while launching and when sailing. Failure to comply with this rule can result in disqualification as deemed appropriate by the protest committee. A boat retiring from a race shall notify a Race Committee vessel before leaving the course, or when that is impossible, leave word at the registration table immediately after arrival ashore.

14. PRIZES – prizes will be awarded following the racing.

NOTICE OF RACE: Great South Bay Junior 2 on 2 Team Race Regatta

1. The regatta will be governed by the most recent The Racing Rules of Sailing,

Appendices of RRS- Team Racing Rules and The Sailing Instructions.

1.2- the regatta will be held in 420s, crews and skippers will be Juniors 18 years or

under who have not sailed in a college program.

1.3 there will not be any spinnakers used for this regatta

1.4 Skippers Meeting will be at 4:45pm at Wet Pants SA. Racing to follow and

subsequent races immediately after.

Important Note: We still have a need for volunteers to serve as race committee on Tuesday, August 9th, Thursday, August 11th, and Thursday, August 25th. Relay for Life

It’s official! Wet Pants Sailing has a team for this year’s Relay for Life in honor of Bob Gorman and the many other friends we have who have battled or are battling cancer. The event will be held at Sayville Middle School on June 18th, beginning at 5pm.

In Memorium

Bob Gorman was a man of free and generous spirit who did things his own way, right to the end. We were lucky to have him for the time we did, and we will miss him terribly.

Thanks to members Mike Hagstedt, Jay Abrams and Joe Conron, the bench overlooking the entrance to Port O Call harbor has been refurbished and dedicated in Bob’s name. Take the opportunity enjoy the view from the bench while watching boats come and go… and keep Bob’s memory in your thoughts.
