We are a team dedicated to serving the interests of the Wet Pants Sailing Association, our members and our students.  Fostering a love of sailing and community!  Our Flag Officers are the Commodore, Vice Commodore and Rear Commodore, below for the 2021-2022 season!

Gerry has lived in Sayville for his entire life and is married with two grown children. By day he is an AVP for Commercial Property & Specialty Risk Claims. He loves snow skiing in winter and you guessed it, sailing is his passion! Gerry sails for pleasure and competitively. He captains a
Rhodes 19’ sailboat and a Sunfish. Past Commodore 2019-2020, Afterguard and has returned for a second turn as Commodore!

Barbara Whitbread

Barbara Whitbread

Sailing School (PSC) & Webmaster

Barbara lives in Sayville with her two children. She has a Marketing and Web Design company and when not working or volunteering at WPSA she enjoys genealogy, travel and cultural events.

She brings many years of business and organizational experience and grew up boating. Introduced to sailing more recently through her children and late husband, she loves sailing and learning!

They own a few sailboats - a Catalina 22’, a Vanguard 15’, a Sunfish and are currently restoring a Rhodes 19.

Barbara is our website webmaster, as well as Parental Steering Chair (directs the WPSA Sailing School).

The Klein Family lives in Sayville. Joe is Senior Vice President of the largest paramedical provider in the USA. He enjoys snow skiing, family time, sailing and boating out on the Great South Bay! Joe has a Pursuit, an Avon and an Optimist for his kids. He was Commodore for the 2020-2021 term.

Afterguard - Past Commodore 2018-2019

Bob has been a member since 1972! Married to Pat, he‘s a dad with 7 grandchildren. He was our Head Instructor from 1977-1987, increasing the enrollment from 22 to over 90. Bob was the WPSA Financial Secretary in the 1990’s.

He’s got thousands of miles of boating and sailing experience! For starters, Bob has a USCG 100 Ton Masters License for Near Coastal Waters with Sail Endorsement, a United States Power Squadron Full Certificate, is an instructor for countless classes for cruising and racing, and is well known for being a captain for the Long Island Maritime Museum‘s vintage Oyster Sloop, the Priscilla. Bob has a Marshall 22’ catboat.

Bob was Custodian of the Sacred Pants in 1987, and Commodore in 2019.

John is a longtime WPSA member and is our Great South Bay Yacht Racing Association Representative. More details to come.

Charles Huberman

Handicap Fleet Captain

Born and raised on Long Island, Charlie has been living in the Oakdale/Sayville area for over 30 years and has been an active member of WPSA.

Past Commodore 2006. Custodian of the Sacred Pants 2009. Flag officer 2004-2006. Previously held positions at WPSA: Fleet Captain, Race Committee Chairman, GSBYRA Delegate - to name a few.

Charles’ son Joesph was an active Wet Pants Junior, going through the ranks of sailing instruction and as WPSA Head Instructor during his High School and college years.

Charles has been active in local and regional Flying Scot sailing, but his real passion has been sailing catboats. Charles is now the Handicap Fleet Captain, which has races Thursday nights through the summer - these are open to all members who wish to race in sailboats of all types.

Ron is our historian, the keeper of the WPSA legacy.

Ron served as custodian of the Sacred Pants Award in 1981 and as Commodore in 1981.

Ted is charged with our trophy awards at our end of season dinner, the Annual Mess. More details to come.
