June 7th, 2026 – Join Us for a Ribbon Cutting for our Remodel Reveal & Sailing School Open House with Trial Sails for Adults and Youth

PRESS RELEASE 5/29/26:

The Wet Pants Sailing Association, proudly established in 1934, invites the community to celebrate the unveiling of our extensive exterior renovation during a special Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and Open House on Sunday, June 7th at 9:00 AM, at Wet Pants, in Sayville.

Renovations were completed through the cooperation and support of the Town of Islip, we’d like to especially thank Supervisor Angie Carpenter; Commissioner Thomas Owens; and Councilmembers John Lorenzo, Jorge Guadrón, DawnMarie Kuhn, and Michael McElwee Jr.  This project marks an exciting new chapter for one of the area’s longest-standing waterfront organizations.  After months of major improvements and restoration work, the club is proud to reveal its completely refreshed new look.

Renovations include a brand-new roof, all-new siding, extensive structural repairs, new windows and doors, upgraded paving, enhanced exterior lighting, and numerous exterior improvements designed to better welcome both members and the greater community for generations to come.

This transformation represents more than just a renovation – it reflects a renewed commitment to preserving a historic local institution while creating an inviting waterfront destination where families, neighbors, and future sailors can gather, learn, and experience the joy of being on the water.

The ribbon-cutting celebration will be immediately followed at 10:00 AM by a Community Open House, welcoming both adults and youth with interested in summer sailing lessons. Guests will have the opportunity to meet instructors, tour the club, learn about upcoming programs, and take a short  45-60 minute introductory sailing experience!

Boats will sail every hour at 10AM, 11AM, 12PM and 1PM as long as the wind cooperates.  Feel the excitement, freedom, and confidence that sailing offers.  (Each person must be registered.  Part of the experience is a classroom overview and life jacket distribution.  We cannot accommodate infants or pets on the boats.)

Whether you are looking for an unforgettable summer activity for your child, a new family adventure, or have always dreamed of learning to sail yourself, this is the perfect opportunity to discover what makes sailing such a rewarding lifelong skill. No experience is necessary –  just curiosity and a willingness to get out on the water.

Friends, neighbors, local businesses, community leaders, and sailing enthusiasts are all warmly invited to join us for this exciting milestone as we celebrate the future of a community tradition that has been sailing strong since 1934.
